Chris has lived in the village for over ten years now, having swapped the windswept fens of Ely for the softer Suffolk countryside.
In a previous life he commuted to London working as an Art Director and copywriter. Finally tiring of the railways and London cabs he returned to the simple life and his first loves - painting and the natural world. He now earns a living from portrait commissions, wildlife paintings and watercolour landscapes.
He retains his links with Ely by selling his work on the Ely Craft Fair on the market square on Saturdays. His work is also sold in the National Horseracing Museum, and can be seen exhibited in the local inn, 'The Three Blackbirds'.

"In my portraiture, whether animal or human, I try to capture the character of the subject, not just reproduce a photographic image. The aim of the paintings of racehorses, lurchers and wildlife is to describe their life and movement with as few brush strokes and as simple a line as possible. The landscapes try to evoke the huge East Anglian skies and a sense of space and freedom using colour, form and light."

Footnote: An enduring reminder of Chris's talent is the Wood Ditton Millennium Sign, standing at the crossroads. This unique sign features an armillary, an ancient device for telling the time from the solar system, and incorporates a cartwheel and men sawing timber as tributes to the village's past.
