We are doing quite well in our research, but if anybody has

need to know if Sarah Tweed, who married William Wiseman 14

Martha Swann (I believe at Wood Ditton) - they lived in

Message:   Nice to hear that Barbara Baily (as was) is still young and
busy. Those of us oldies who remember her from the 1930's
 would expect nothing else.
My recollection of the events which she mentions is a bit
confused. For one of them we had a trestle table party in
the boys' playground with lots of still lemonade served
 from my mother's jugs.
For each celebration there was a fete-cum-sports in the
 Moat (
or Mott) meadow. I was a chubby chap then as now and was
astonished to find that I had won a race, despite the fleet
Harold Jaggard being in competition. Harold's father was
half way down the course and when he shouted "Come on,
Harold", Harold did exactly that - he ran to his father
instead of the finishing line where 'young' Mr. Sydney
Taylor was sitting on his shooting stick presenting instant
prizes from a tube of sixpences. Big money in those days -
enough for a visit to the Misses Prettey's toyshop in
 Newmarket.
Does anyone else have particular memories of those times?

Message:   Hello everyone,
I don't know if you remember me. I grew up in Saxon Street.
I just wanted to say, that I have had so much fun looking
around on this website. It was like going home. It was
especially nice to see some familiar faces. Les Jaggard,
you haven't changed a bit! You used to drive me, Jennifer
Smith, Jane Chadwick and my Sister Marion to GLB, WOW that
was a long time ago. June, sorry for all of the times we
didn't behave as well as we should have, and thank's for
teaching us to be good people. It may have appeared we
weren't listening, but I can assure you, it all sunk in.
Gillian Daly, I remember your beautiful hair. I think you
went to Woodditton school the same time as I was there, but
 you were older than me.

If you do remember me, you know that I married an American
in 1969, and moved to America. You can't imagine how I
felt today when I found this website, and came across the
picture of the Church where I was married, flying the
English flag at half mast to show that you are sharing in
our Grief. I was very touched. I downloaded the picture
 and will treasure it always.

 Thank you for the memories,

Sandra Rosen (Still married to the same guy, and have two
wonderful children, Boy and Girl now grown) Our Daughter is
in the US Army National Guard and also was in the Air Force
for four years. She hopes to be able to go to New York to
 help with clean up efforts.

Message:   My link to Wood Ditton is through Kate Woollard my Great
Grandmother (who married John T. Collis and moved to
Kedington, Suffolk). Through Kate's ancestry my roots are
many and long in Wood Ditton including Richard Jeffery and
his wife Sarh (Bye) who kept 'The Blackbirds' from 1764
until 1808 (Sarah held the licence on her own after
 Richard's death in 1803).

Two of Kate's brothers went to Australia and one to
Pennsylvania and finding their descendants has been a
bonus, especially visiting the Australian ones.

Kate's sister Hester married Charles Cates but I have no
information on many of her siblings and if anyone can help
I would be grateful, they are - HENRY WOOLLARD; ARTHUR
EDMUND WOOLLARD; ELIZABETH SARAH WOOLLARD; MARGARET
WOOLLARD; ALBERT WOOLLARD and BENJAMIN WOOLLARD.

Other names in my tree are Haslewood, Starling, Jaggard,
Haylock, Cook and Isaacson etc., and these roots extend out
from Wood Ditton all over south west Cambridgeshire.

Thank you for a wonderful site and Devil's Dyke brings back

Message:   Dear Friends:

It has been a long time since I saw any of you - around 1959
I'd say. Aunt Emily and Uncle tom (SEAL) kept me up to date
on the goings on, but with their deaths I had no more
contacts. The Web Site is awesome, and made me homesick. I
was glad to see that Wood Ditton (the way I always spelled
it) is just as beatiful as ever and looks like changes are
only for the good. I was so impressed to discover that you
and the villages around have web pages - here in the United
States we are not as advanced. the larger cities have them
but not the smaller towns and villages.

I am an ordainded Ckergy (that might be hard for those older
folks who remember me as a child to believe) serving a
parish in the Austin, Texas area.

AS I glanced over the articles on these wonderful pages
there were names I recognized, and some I know I should
have. I will be coming back again and again learning about
you, and beginning to feel part of the village again. My
summers in Wood Ditton really were the happiests days of my
life as a child, and there is hardly a day goes by that I
don't think of some little thing from those days. I noticed
Mrs. Feda Swann is parish clelrk - I would love to know what
Liz and family are doing, and do you know where Ann Cates
is? Enough for now, but i hope to hear from some of you, and
I will keep up in the events pages. I think the articles on
local personalities are great - a good refresher for me. Is
Revd. Binns still alive he was so wonderful to us kids, and
I would like him to know that he was influential in my going
into the ministry. If there is a way to contact him I would
 like to do that.

I have an interest in Wood Ditton as I descend from Thomas

have about five generations of Wood Ditton ancestry, prior
to my family line moving south to Weston Colville around
 1750.
I see that surnames like JAGGARD, SIMONDS, WOOLLARD,and
STARLING are well known in Wood Ditton. All of these
surnames come into my Cambridgeshire ancestry, though
around Weston Colville and West Wratting, rather than at
 Wood Ditton.

Message:   I was born here in 1931 but left in 1942 when the house
 burned down!
I was interested to learn from County records that a number
of family names still in the village go back to the 16th.
 and 17th.centuries.
 Haselwood 1568
 Jaggard 1593
 Starling 1658
 Chapman 1672

I can trace my direct line back to 1777 and find that until
about1920 (my father's era) all my ancestors married within
the village. It all changed with the advent of affordable
 bicycles!
